Building a SafeTeam

Starting SafeTeam in your school requires the commitment of students, parents, administrators, teachers and counselors. Putting together a SafeTeam take sveral steps and time.  Not all of the pieces will fall in place at the beginning, but will build upon each other.  SafeTeam is set up on Tier System.  Following is an outline.

Approachable Schools

• Specific school that are to be approached with the idea of implementing the SafeTeam program.

Preliminary Discussion

• A specific school has expressed interest in possible implementation of SafeTeam and discussion are current, active and ongoing.

Developmental Tier

• A specifc school has indicated that they are going to implement SafeTeam and planning activities have begun
• Meetings are current, active, and ongoing, and a program start date has been identified
• The school principal has expressed willingness to help support work toward implementation of all aspects of the SafeTeam program
• Funding for the SafeTeam Coordinator either is in the process of being secured, or has been secured

Tier I

• A SafeTeam Coordinator has been identified to head up the program in the school with secured funding
• The SafeTeam Coordiantor has secured an appropriate office location with necessary space and equipment: including phone, computer, mobile phone, desk, chairs
• The SafeTeam Coordinator supports implementation of all critical components of SafeTeam including: Student SafeTeam, Faculty SafeTeam, Communicty SafeTeam and a Clinical Consultant
• The SafeTeam Coordinator has identified and secured the services of the Clinical Consultant
• Funding for the SafeTeam Coordiantor is secure

Tier II

• The SafeTeam Coordinator has begun the process of implemenation of all critical component of SafeTeam
• Clinical Consultant services are secured
• Student and Faculty SafeTeams have been selected and are meeting on a regular, systematic basis
• Awareness and appreciation of the program and its role in the school is growing in a postive direction

Tier III

• SafeTeam students and faculty have completed SafeTeam training
• Awareness and acceptance of the program in the life of the school in imbedded and completely accepted
• School is participating in end of semester evaluations and other surveys distributed by Mental Health Association in Tulsa
• Community SafeTeam has been created and meetings are beginning

Tier IV

• The school as a whole recognizes the SafeTeam program and has full support from upper adminstration
• Faculty SafeTeam meetings are ongoing and the program is supported by other faculty members as well as other students
• SafeTeam promotes school- wide activities that impact each student
• Community SafeTeam meetings are existing and the community has a large stake and interest in the SafeTeam program
• The school can be considred a SafeTeam school
