Community outreach and education play critical roles in increased public awareness of mental illnesses, recovery efforts and in the reduction of stigma.
As a United Way member agency, the Mental Health Association in Tulsa supports the local community through a variety of educational efforts geared toward individuals, families, schools and professionals, including the Charles P. Seger Seminar on Depression held each May, and the annual Zarrow Mental Health Symposium held in the fall. Please check our calendar for upcoming presentations, screenings and educational seminars. We also distribute free literature, attend community health fairs and provide speakers.
The Association is a partner in the Campaign for America’s Mental Health sponsored by Mental Health America (the new name and face of the National Mental Health Association).
The Mental Health Association in Tulsa is also the Oklahoma Outreach Partner for the National Institute of Mental Health. Through our relationship with NIMH we are able to provide updates and information on some of the leading research being done to enhance mental health and improve the quality of life for people with mental illness.
NIMH also offers a broad spectrum of materials for consumers, family members and physicians, including brochures, fact sheets and updates related to mental health disorders, medications, research and more. These materials are available free of charge and can be ordered, or downloaded from the publications section of the NIMH site.
