Below are ideas on ways to utilize your SafeTeam throughout the year.
August Train students, staff, and parents on SafeTeam goals and objectives Offer trainings for students, staff, and parents on signs of troubled students Discuss diversity and acceptance within the school. Recruitment activity for student SafeTeam members.
September SafeTeams will host their first school forum to educate the school about the program, how it functions, discuss school safety issues, and create an opportunity for communication between teachers and students.
October SafeTeams will focus on the topic of school violence through a series of discussions and school activities targeted toward students and staff.
November SafeTeams will focus on harassment through a series of projects, including examining school policy.
December SafeTeams will emphasize the importance of diversity in schools. Efforts will include a facilitated discussion on the definition of diversity, and providing an opportunity for students and staff to discuss issues related to this area.
January SafeTeams in schools will discuss self-esteem/personality through various avenues.
February SafeTeam schools will focus on family relationships, including ways of improving communication between parents and youth and educating families on the basics of relationship dynamics.
March Each SafeTeam school will conduct their second community forum about issues affecting the school and possible solutions.
April - May Each SafeTeam will organize activities relevant to their particular schools, focusing on issues such as eating disorders, stress managements and other areas.
June - July Joint program planning with the director, coordinators, and student SafeTeam members will be conducted for the upcoming school year.
