From Housing to Recovery Building Community, Building Lives
September 19-21, 2012
Conference Description
The Zarrow Mental Health Symposium is an annual educational forum designed to provide state-of-the-art research and best practice information about current issues related to mental health. In 2012, the Mental Health Association in Tulsa and Mental Health America will host a national symposium addressing the critical issues of housing, recovery and community supports for people living with mental illness. Discussion will focus on innovative approaches to the development of safe, decent and affordable housing in the community as well as accompanying best practice models of support services needed to sustain recovery.
The conference will feature:
-
Workshops in Motion: Board the bus and take a tour to see nationally recognized housing and recovery programs up close and in action
-
Building Lives through Community Collaboration and Support: Special sessions dedicated to funding, advocacy, support services, community collaboration, and more
-
Opportunities to learn from and network with leading experts in affordable housing development and innovative recovery support services addressing issues of homelessness, mental illness and recovery
This will be the second time in its 18 year history the Zarrow Symposium has gone national. In 2004, the Mental Health Association in Tulsa welcomed 400 participants from 33 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada to Tulsa to hear from nationally recognized experts in the fields of housing and recovery services.
Target Audience
The conference is designed to provide educational opportunities for a diverse group of individuals and organizations working to eliminate homelessness and to improve the lives of people living with mental illness through affordable housing and recovery services. The resulting target audience includes licensed mental health professionals, alcohol and drug counselors, peer support specialists, prevention specialists, case managers, advocates, and other professionals engaged in social services, health care, faith communities, public housing, affordable housing development, public policy, and community planning.
