YMCA SAFE HAVEN
The Safe Haven at the Downtown YMCA offers short-term, transitional,
and long-term options for chronically homeless, street-habituated
adults living with mental illness including those with a dual
diagnosis, regardless of whether they have an income or are
actively in treatment or not. The 25 rooms at Safe Haven provide
individuals an alternative to shelters and to the streets
for individuals who can benefit from its “low-demand,
high expectation” model. This program provides assertive
community advocacy and a menu of supportive services, including
meal plans, life skills development and linkages with community
providers both on and off-site. The Safe Haven program helps
its residents come in off the streets and learn the skills
necessary to gain residential stability and put an end to
the vicious cycle of homelessness.
